Let me suggest the current immigration laws and the way that are been used to make the public believe that this laws are protecting them from terrorism wich it isn't, and instead are creating discrimination, racism, persecution and different forms of cruel violations of the human rights, that in time will affect the whole society and most of the people are not even awared of the way that they are stalking more than 12 million families in this country.

i'm commenting on your request for topics for the short films--it would be great if you could examine some underlying issues that connect all the issues--like how profit and monopoly capitalism create institutions under which economic, political and social justice cannot be realized--

maybe even connecting two issues that might seem unconnected and doing a number of films like that--to educate people to the need, in essence, for a theory of society--not just to spend all our time fighting one issue and then even in vicdtory and other issue just as bad or worse emerges...

hard for me to give an example since i see so many connections--you could ask people to pick two issues they think are not connected and then do short films showing those connectgions...

but say for example take health care and the electoral college-this seems a bit of a challenge to make connections in a short video...

Campaign finance reform and publicly funded elections don't generate voters' interest because they don't see their connection with the corporate takeover of America. There are many great ideas here, but I think the most important, dramatic and resonating film you could make would be about the apparent and growing fascist menace that the Bush Administration presents to the U.S. The unholy alliance of corporate power and right-wing zealotry has yielded a long series of outrages, including denial of habeas corpus, illegal domestic wire-tapping, institutionalized election fraud by corporations with ties to the Republican Party, an American gulag of illegal detentions and torture, a massive shift of taxpayer money into war-related industries, a $385 million contract in 2006 to Halliburton for the construction of ‘domestic detention centers’ (in case of a flood of immigrants or a ‘rapid change of policy’), a reliance on Blackwater and 170 other corporate armies to provide ‘security’ in Iraq and New Orleans with no accountability for their budget or behavior, and a presidential directive on May 9, 2007, that appoints Bush the head of all three branches of government in the event of what he considers a sufficiently grave national emergency (echoing the Reagan-era plan to suspend the Constitution during national crisis, drafted by Searle CEO Donald Rumsfeld and WY Congressman Dick Cheney).

The voting shenanigans that have been going on in the last few elections including efforts to keep people from voting and to keep us from verifying if our votes actually got counted correctly. I would like a documentary on the scandalous practices of the pharmaceutical industry: including how they influence the FDA, doctors, their marketing, their coverup etcs.

One issue I would like to see addressed more widely is the ongoing efforts by the radical Christian Nationalists to subvert our democracy and create a fundamentalist Christian government. This is not a minor issue - the Christian right already has tremendous power to influence our government, and they don't intend to stop with that. The writings of their leaders are genuinely frightening. I recommend for further enlightenment "Kindom Coming", by Michelle Goldberg, and "American Fascists", by Chris Hedges.

The case for impeachment for Bush, Cheney, Rice, and the rest of the rogues in the Administration.

It's not a very high priority issue, but I'd like to see a documentary that explores how `elite' became an epithet, particularly when it refers to education. Mr. Greenwald probably deals with this a lot- conservative pundits especially can be heard dismissing someone outright for being a liberal elite, as if the listeners understand why that fact alone means their view is worthless. We have a bizarre fear of academia.

Your film must explain how we lost America, by ignoring our Forefathers warnings of corporations, and that most of the tyranny is coming from judges in 'our' courthouses, as they had given themselves immunity for their decisions, (created dictatorship), which is why their criminal acts are ignored by our government and media, thereby treason throughout.

You're doing very important work, keep it up! I agree with most all of the messages above. What I think is crucial that Americans understand that our problems are systematic. The Bush/Cheney regime is simply a result of this systematic failure. So we need to fix that first (basically, assuring really just elections and a really free media).
On top of that, we need to come to terms with the fact that we've bascially been fed a lot of propoganda in our highschool history classes. Who knows that Hawaii was taken by us by force? That Panama was created after we invaded Columbia? That the Spanish-American war was based on false charges, just like the Iraq war. (The Maine was not blown up by an enemy bomb, but was due to a mechanical failure). Once Americans start to doubt (such as I have) what they are being taught and told, they will automatically begin to search for the truth. So how to put this into a film? Why not draw the parallels with the Maine incident, the Golf of Tonkin (and, if you are daring, Pearl Harbor--not really surprising that it happened, since the U.S. was blockading Japan), and 9-11. I am one who is convinced that it was an inside job.

Since the Democratic party still seems gun-shy and our journalists have not stood up and exposed the lies, etc., it is important that the blatant lies told by the Bush administration; the utter disregard for our Constitution and it's war against dissent be totally exposed. I've recently watched a documentary where American soldiers in Iraq and those who have returned spoke about their feelings. I've also watched the new Bill Moyers' show where they concentrated on the miserable job our journalists did when Bush and his cronies were making their case for the Iraqi war. We need to show the American public how they have been lied to and how important the voice of dissent is in a democracy. Bush has made dissent synonymous with being a traitor. Their constant lies need to be exposed - how they are NOT supporting our troops - necessary equipment has been withheld. We need to stress the importance of separation of Church and State; how war should be the LAST resort to settle a coflict, not the first method used. We need to show the public the numbers of Americans and Iraq civilians and soldiers who have been killed and maimed by this war. Show th public what the consequences of war are; we have become an incredibly militant, imperialistic force; this is NOT the America I grew up in... My son, who is 17, hates this country and wants to leave; many of his friends express their doubts about their ability to lead a safe, productive and peaceful life in the USA. In response to the recently vetoed funding bill, Bush reminded congress that it should let it's military commanders make military decisions. It is time brave new films was truely brave and took on the 9/11 topic.

Among the biggest of the big issues (including the inside-Beltway seduction of the press or the incestuous press/politics connection) is simply that political leaders should lead -- not follow.

At a state Demo convention a couple of political consultants were trying to discuss Demo "talking points" and they all but emptied the room of people who had essentially the same goal. Their "talking points" were focused on winning over those few swing voters in the mushy middle who the pros believe determine the outcome of elections -- and who probably would be unable to find their collective asses with both hands even with the assistance of instructive talking points.

This is a mistake.

If candidates establish positions driven by focus groups and consultants, they are not leading, but are constantly **trailing** the electorate -- and alienating an increasingly cynical "base" (me) at the same time.

Poll-driven Hillary has lost whatever credibility she used to have. John McCain, well... you know. John Edwards seems to be attempting to lead with populist values and not a lot of waffling based on focus groups. The fact that he doesn't have a long DC resume matters not at all. He is an intelligent man who never had the luxury of failing upwardly like many in government.

I mention Edwards as an example, not necessarily as an exemplar. There's still a lot of time until the election.

Anyway, you get the idea.

P.S. - When will politicians try on "Impeach Bush"... "and Cheney" for size? I live in a solidly Republican area, but get a lot of favorable response and no threats for my bumpersticker expressing this thought.

Perhaps one thing that I could suggest is also taking on the issue of impeachment. There is enough evidence to warrant this course and the Democrats taking it off the table is not an option. We cannot allow Congress to abdicate its responsibilities anymore, like they did with the war powers act. A film about the facts that point to a need for impeachment and a review of exactly what is required under the law would be educational and might put some more steam to this issue.

The greed, the lying, the corruption that is condoned by our

representatives in Washington DC will not end if we, the people, don't

change the rules of the game they are playing by. Our system of

government was designed to represent the people first and foremost.

This is no longer the case... it is representing big money... and the

people only when absolutely necessary. Republican, Democrat,

Independent... it doesn't matter.. if they're not representing the people

first... they're not doing their job.

Congress is supposed to keep the executive branch in check by

remaining true to the concerns of their constituents... the people... not

the corporations. How can Congress do this if they are constantly

concerned about the upcoming election... obtaining the needed funds

and not alienating the big money and big corporations that provide the

money to the re-election machine. Some states have taken steps to

remove the influence of money by enacting term limits for

representatives and providing funds for election campaigns. These and

other steps need to be considered on a Federal level.

Our system of government is the greatest this planet has ever seen.

Much of it's greatness is due to the systems adaptability via the

amendment process. This process allows the constitution to be

amended as the world changes. However, it's ludicrous to think that

those benefitting from the current rules... the politicians as recipients of

the big money... are going to take steps to rewrite them. We, the people,

need to lead the way.

Movies have addressed pieces of this issue... Wag the Dog and The

Corporation to name two. I feel a smaller, pointed and poignant piece

could make an impact that could mobilize a movement.

Don't know if you can support (verbally) any of the presidential candidates. Hillary and Barack have some shortcomings, and there are better qualified contestants, e.g. Gov. Bill Richardson. If there is any way to get him more national exposure,....

There are a lot of campaigns and ideas here to stop wrongdoing. But what about starting to do something right? I think the most effective thing we can do to build a sustainable future, in terms of energy security and quality of life, is to rebuild our railroad network, and build an effective passenger train system nationwide which has good coverage even in suburbs. The government should be competetive player in this industry. Trains do not have to burn fossil fuels -- they can run on renewable sources of electricity, and they are mechanically much more efficient than trucks and passenger vehicles. Trains are the key to energy independence and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing traffic problems!

I would like to add a comment to Carole Mills post of April 23rd.
I worked hard on the impeachment of Nixon in 1974, gathering thousands of names on petitions. I would love to see a film of Nixon and Bush side by side, comment by comment. Same story, different war. It's scary.
I support MoveOn.com and I'm glad to hear they are supporting you. I really think the American public needs to see what a puppet government we have, run by the same people-Cheny, Rumsfeld, etc. Put Nixon and Bush side by side, show the people what's really going on. PLEASE.

Please address lobbyists; I think this growing industry (and that is what it is) drives so much of what is going on and going wrong in Washington. And it really is not a partisan issue; Democrats and republicans alike can probably agree that it is not in the best interest of the greater good for ALL to have lobbyists trying to further their own causes. It is ridiculous and should be eliminated.

I am also interested in the health care debate, big pharmaceuticals and the effect of these two industries (and their lobbyists) on what is going on with this issue in our country. We can not profess to be the land of the free and the home of the brave with justice for all when health care is such a manifestation of the socio-economic divide in our country. Come on.

the over arching reality in america is that we have not only been consistently lied to by this administration and republican congressional activities in the last 15-30 years but have been poorly represented and served buy the democrats....

weather it's the presence of the israeli lobby and our subsequent failure in providing a workable solution to the palestine question or refusal to try to have congress set limits on gas mileage or healthcare or other environmental concerns ( in the 2nd half of the clinton administration), and the list goes on...

all of these issues ( and many more) point to the fact that if there is any hope with the dems, there has got to be a change...

I submit that progessives lay down the gauntlet on health care.
If democratic candicates on average are not willing to recognise that
SINGLE PAYER (i.e. the government/nationalised) health care insurance, is the greatest chance we have at attaining a viable
health care plan for everyone, we need to distance ourselves from them. It is patently dis-honest to talk about health care for all americans and not consider let alone mention, single payer as the 1st and best option for our country.

If democratic candidates dont do this, you can rest assured they are in the pockets of insurance and other big business, status quo types who stand to lose a lot if we are successful in achieving national healthcare....
We must break the cycle of business interests ditacting public policy, and it needs to start here!

the coalition of immokalee workers are taking this country by storm, having forced taco bell and now mcdonalds to completely change their policies on tomato purchases to better serve harvest workers. ciw is now targeting burger king, and at the rate they're going will soon have the entire fast food industry signed on to a strong policy upholding the rights and pay of tomato pickers. after tomatoes, no produce is safe! you should make a movie about these amazing and inspiring workers who collectively organize to change working conditions for all low-wage food workers.

I would like to see an expose' on America's relationship with communist China. Why aren't Republicans standing up for Reagan's dream of defeating communism? Why aren't Democrats standing up for the American workers who are losing their jobs by the MILLIONS to China? Meanwhile, we hear about recall after recall resulting from toxins or safety failures in Chinese products and foods.

The ever-increasing trade deficit with China is beginning to pose a risk to national security; China not only has leverage over us financially, but it is also using our money to build up their military. China does not hide the fact that they intend on being our direct rival, and we're footing the bill.

I think that unfair trade with China is the greatest issue facing this nation. I would be delighted to see anything that addressed this.

Thank you for your investigative report into Wal-Mart’s devious roots. I especially enjoyed all of the interviews with former employees who finally spoke out about how they were treated. Only through intuitive testimonies like those in your movie can Wal-Mart’s true methods be exposed.

The most important issue to expose is the big lie that is the basis of the "war on terror" is The REAL Reason Why They Hate Us. Bush and the media peddle the racist lie that thousands of people wake up every morning wishing we were dead, why?; because our women wear skimpy clothing or Bush's line "they hate us because we're free" To the portion of the public that knows of no other grievence the peoples of the middle east they accept these assertions by default...and the logic goes..."if they hate us and want to attack us because we're free we have no choice but to kill them first because we're not going to give up our freedom...

MY SECOND SUGGESTION is that you expose the debate between Dems and Reps as to setting a timetable for withdrawal of the troops from Iraq as the total fraud we ( but not "them" ie the pubic at large) know it to be.
The U.S. never plans to leave Iraq. If they were planning to then who is going to man the ,how many? "enduring" ie "permanent" US military bases plus the 3-4,000 employees at the enormous "embasy" in Bagdad.
3)The other inconvenient truth that has been buried by the media is the new and, illegal under international law, law Bush is pushing through Iraqi puppet Parliment that will enable US and British oil companies to "buy" Iraq's oil wealth. ie This is the final proof that the US invasion was not self-defence, and not liberation but mass murder and armed robbery.
